This is a story from May 2024, when I was 18 years old.

Back then, I basically used a mouse even when drawing on my PC. I used an Elecom mouse. I used it for everyday PC operations, of course, but also for little sketches.

Looking back, drawing with a mouse was quite difficult (laughs).

When I tried to draw a line, it wouldn't go where I wanted it to, or the curves would be jagged. Sometimes, trying to fix the finer details would make things even worse.

Even so, I had been drawing with a mouse for a long time, so I thought, "Well, this is probably good enough."

Amidst all of this, in May 2024, I took the plunge and started using an XP-Pen pen display tablet.

The first time I used a drawing tablet, it was quite a novel experience.

You can draw directly on the screen with a pen.

It's something we do as a matter of course now, but for someone like me who only used a mouse, even that was a big deal!

Of course, I wasn't able to draw smoothly from the very beginning.

I had trouble getting used to the feel of the pen, I was bothered by the slight discrepancy between the cursor and the writing, and I didn't know how to use pressure sensitivity effectively.

"I didn't suddenly become incredibly good at drawing just because I switched to a drawing tablet!"...Of course not (lol).

However, after using it for a while, I gradually got used to it, and I became able to draw lines more naturally than with a mouse.

What was particularly significant was that my sense of "drawing" became much stronger.

With a mouse, you move the mouse in your hand to control the cursor on the screen. But with a pen display, you can just move the pen to where you want to draw and draw lines directly.

This difference was quite significant.

Looking back now, May 2024, when I was 18, was a time when my drawing environment on my PC changed dramatically.

Switched from an ELECOM mouse to an XP-Pen pen display tablet.

You could say it was just a matter of changing one piece of equipment, but for me, it was an event that made "drawing pictures on a PC" a little more enjoyable.

And those days when I was struggling with a mouse are good memories in their own way.

If my past self saw my current work environment,

"Wait, you can draw directly on the screen?! That's so easy!"

I think that's what I'd say (laughs).
